The 5th Congress Hidden Hunger will be dedicated to the different facets of school meals for children. Besides key note lectures and free presentations, international organizations and small non-governmental organisations (NGO) with experience in school- and day care center-feeding will be part of the program. Different models (e.g. catering, small farming and school gardening) and their evaluation will be presented and discussed in terms of their transferability (workshops, panel discussion). The application and successful implementation of quality standards in different socio-economic settings as well as gender aspects and the contribution of catering to sustainability will be an important part of the congress. After each session, there will be time for discussion.
In satellite symposia, international organizations (Welthungerhilfe, World Food Programme, Save the Children, and more) will be invited to present their care center and school feeding projects.
Overall, this congress will compile the scientific data of various focal points of school meals and thus contribute to the further implementation of this important building block of healthy and sustainable diets for children. The presented papers will again be published as a book in the World Review of Nutrition and Dietetics series by Karger Verlag.
